Hung Sing History

Hung Sing Choy Lee Fut was developed by Jeung, Yim (Also known as Jeung, Hung Sing). He was born in 1824 in Guandong, China and trained under Master Lee Yau-San; learning the Lee family style.

At the age of 12 (1836), Jeung, Yim had heard of Mr. Chan, Heung, a well known practictioner of the Chan family style. His uncle (叔父) brought him to the Chan Village to learn expand his learning of Gung Fu and to ease the financial burden of caring for Jeung, Yim. The Chan Village denied Jeung, Yim acceptance as a student to prevent outsiders from learning their style and to remove any responsibility for Jeung, Yim’s well being.

Jeung, Yim persisted in his quest by supporting himself through odd jobs in the village; everything from a cook, a repairman, and a janitor. As a janitor he was allowed to clean the Gung Fu training areas; there he was able to observe students training. In secret he practiced the moves he observed and incorporated them into his own Gung Fu training.

Chan, Heung noticed Jeung, Yim practicing and was impressed. He agreed to teach Jeung,Yim the Chan Family style in secret. Soon the other students discovered the secret teaching sessions and out of jealousy they snitch. Chan, Heung was forced to desist from mentoring Jeung, Yim and the village expelled Jeung, Yim. As support for Jeung, Yim’s continued training, Chan, Heung gave him money and a letter for the Green Grass Monk (Ching Cho Wo Seong) who was in hiding from the Qing dynasty.

Before the monk would accept him as a disciple, Jeung, Yim had to undergo some trials to prove his worth to the monk. For 8-10 years, Jeung, Yim put his life on hold to devote himself to his training; mastering all hand forms, weapons, internal techniques, and medical knowledge. After the completion of his training, Jeung, Yim was allowed to leave and was given the name, Jeung, Hung Sing.

He returned to his previous mentor, Chan, Heung, and shared his knowledge. He stayed for 5 years, assisting Chan, Heung with the school, but was forced to leave by the village as he was still an outsider.

After his departure he went to Fut San and founded his own school in 1851 (around the age of 26) and called it Fut Ga Jing Jong or Hung Sing's Fist.
